Toldbod Plads is at one end of the newly renovated stretch from John F. Kennedys Plads to the waterfront. It is intended to create unity between the harbour promenade, Østerågade, and the city centre. One way of achieving this has been to continue the visual profiling of the course of the old stream, which from Nytorv is marked by blue lights, and which in Tolbod Plads has determined the location of the fountain. On the waterfront, the end of the stream’s course is marked by an indentation at the spot where the stream once met the river.
The waters of the fountain, which are the focal point of the square, will dance in tune to Händel’s Water Music at regular hours every day.
