The Rosenbækken district has been altered as part of an urban renewal scheme. Formerly, there was restricted access to the space around the residential block, which was used for parking and a place where drug addicts hung out. For this reason, security and safety have been central themes in connection with the renewal of the area, and green spaces that encourage people to gather have not been included. On the other hand, a free space for drug addicts with a lean-to has been established near the Church Army centre on Pantheonsgade. The new area around the residential block has been created with the cooperation of residents, users, local authority officials and politicians. The gateway building has been designed in deliberate contrast to neighbouring buildings. The Bikuben Student Hostel Foundation has built 88 one or two-roomed student flats as an addition to the area. Solid materials have been used that fit in very well with other buildings in the urban environment. Rosenbæk Huset community centre, situated in the block, is used for theatrical and musical performances, residents' meetings and other events. The square, Rosenbæk Torv, is at the same time a place of passage and a free space for residents of the block. The square is laid out as a completely paved area, livened up by works of art, a few trees and the running water which symbolises the original stream (Rosen-bæk) that has given the place its name. The wide access balconies or terraces of the apartments are furnished with tables and benches which residents can choose to move out into the square as they wish. There is a difference in level down to the square itself and the steps here are shaped like in a little amphitheatre, which can be used in connection with activities in the square or in the community centre. The square is designed to be a place for encounters and activities and can be used as a market place. Eiler Madsen has created the busts of the five wise men: Socrates, Tycho Brahe, Darwin, Einstein and Picasso. The water channel that starts at Brandts Torv and flows down to the Rosenbækkarréen was designed by the architect responsible for the whole area, Jess Henneberg. The whole district was awarded a prize by the Municipality of Odense in 2004.
- There is public access to the square. Rosenbæk Huset can be visited when there are public events. The Mime Theatre has a cafe where various events are held that are open to the public.
