The garden is reconstructed and renovated several times.
Lotzes Have is named after the apothecary, Gustav Lotze, who owned and cultivated this place as a private apothecary garden for some thirty years starting in the 1850s. His garden was known throughout Europe for its large collection of plants from all over the world. For a long time the garden fell into disuse until it was taken over by the Municipality of Odense in 1959. Today it has been renovated and altered and is now a small city park. This is a very fertile place, closely planted with many varieties of herbaceous borders and trees. From the park there is access to the Hans Christian Andersen Museum and the children's cultural centre, 'Fyrtøjet' ('The Tinder Box').
