Odense Kommune
The northern section of Kongensgade was converted into a pedestrian street in 2001 and is the first phase of a new type of pedestrian streets in Odense. The street is paved with yellow clinker brick that are special for Odense and seen on a large part of the city's sidewalks. In the pedestrian street the clinker brick has a special size and a surface treatment, which contribute to emphasise the street's particular function. Along the houses the paving is of blackish grey, Chinese granite. The layout of the pedestrian street took place concurrently with the artistic decoration of the street space, including a fountain wall, a pool and eight granite colossi. Together with steles, water conduit and planting the work of art accentuates the entire street course.
